How to Create A Light Sweep Effect in After Effects

If you are looking to create a light sweep effect on your text or video then this tutorial would be best for you. In this tutorial, you will learn to make a beautiful light sweep or we can say a moving light on the text or video.

Let’s Get Started!

Step 1: Open Adobe After Effects, go to the composition, and create a new composition. Rename it to the light sweep animation or whatever name you like. Set the resolution to 1920×1080 Pixels frame rate to 30 frames per second and set the duration to 10 seconds.

Step 2: Go to the Layers Menu then New and select the solid. Rename it to the background.

Step 3: Select the type tool from the toolbar and add your text. Increase the font size then align the Text to the center.

Step 4: Select the Text layer and change its color to Red, orange, or blue.

Step 5: Go to the Effects and Presets, then search the effect CC Light Sweep. Drag and drop to the screen.
As you can see the light effects are added to the text. Initially, we will not see any animation.

Step 6: Select the CC Light sweep effect, and drag the little icon to move the light source. We can change the light in any direction. Let’s animate the light source so it will sweep across the text.

Step 7: Make sure you are at the first frame. Click the little stopwatch icon to add a keyframe. Drag the little icon to move the light effect. ow, change the light position after 4 seconds. Select the Text Layer then Press U on the keyboard to reveal all keyframes. Select both keyframes, right click and go to keyframe assistant and choose easy ease.

We are done! Our light Sweep animation is ready.
