If you are looking to create a simple countdown timer, then this short tutorial is best for you. In this tutorial, you will learn to create a simple and short Countdown timer in Adobe After Effects without using any plugins. After watching this tutorial, you will easily create your own countdown timer Animation.

So let’s get started.

Step 1: Open Adobe after effects then Create a new composition. Rename it to the countdown timer. Set the resolution of 1920×1080 Pixels. Frame rate to 30 frames per second. Set the duration to 20 seconds.

Step 2: Go to the Layer Menu > New > Create a solid layer. Rename it to the background. Lock the background layer.

Step 3: Go to the toolbar, and select the type tool. Click anywhere on the screen and type your Text. Increase the font size and align the text to the center. Right-click on the text layer. Go to Effects > Then Expression Controls > Then select the slider control. Go to text properties under the text. Hold the ALT Key on the keyboard. And copy this script first.

slider = Math.round(effect(“Slider Control”)(“Slider”))
sec = slider%60
min = Math.floor(slider/60)
function addZero(n){ if (n<10) return “0” + n else return n }
addZero(min) + “:” + addZero(sec)

Step 4: Click the little stopwatch to add an expression. Then paste the script. You will get the expression error. Let’s fix this. Go to File > Project settings > Go to expression Tab.

Change the Expression engine from javaScript to Legacy ExtendScript. Expression error would be fixed.

Step 5: Make sure you are at the first frame. Click the slider stopwatch to add a keyframe. Then change the value to 20. Go to the last frame on a timeline then change the value to 0. If you want to remove 2 zeros. Then go to Expression and remove this line from the script. addZero(min) + “:” +

Finally, align your text to the center again.

We are done! Our Countdown timer animation is ready in Adobe After Effects.
