Step-by-Step Guide to Animate Text Stroke in After Effects:
Step 1: Launching Adobe After Effects and Setting Up the Composition
- Open Adobe After Effects.
- Navigate to the Composition menu and create a new composition.
- Rename it as “Animate Stroke” or select a name you prefer.
- Set the resolution to 1920×1080 Pixels, frame rate to 30 frames per second, and duration to 10 seconds.
Step 2: Crafting Your Text
- Utilize the type tool to insert your text.
- Enlarge the text size and align it to the center.
Step 3: Creating a Masked Outline
- Right-click on the text layer.
- Choose “Create Masks from Text.” This action generates a mask around the text.
Step 4: Adding the Stroke Effect
- Select the Text outline layer.
- Head to the Effects Menu > Generate.
- Search for the “Stroke” effect.
- Apply the stroke effect by dragging and dropping it onto the text outline layer.
Step 5: Fine-Tuning Stroke Parameters
- Access the Effect Controls settings.
- Check the “All Masks” option.
- Alter the Paint Style from “Original Image” to “On Transparent.”
- Increase the Brush Size to 3.5 and set the Brush Hardness to 100%.
- Decrease the spacing to 0%.
- Click the clock icon to add a keyframe. Set the end value to 0%.
- After two seconds, raise the value to 100%.
Step 6: Smoothing the Animation
- Select the Stroke outline layer.
- Press “U” on your keyboard to access keyframes.
- Choose both keyframes.
- Right-click and navigate to Keyframe Assistant, then pick Easy Ease.
Step 7: Changing Animation Order
- By default, our Stroke animation works sequentially.
- Alter this by unchecking the “Stroke Sequentially” option in Effect Controls.
Step 8: Adding Colors to the Strokes
- Select the stroke outline layer.
- Press Control + D to duplicate it.
- Slightly shift the duplicate layer to the right.
- Modify the stroke color.
- Repeat this process to create a total of 6 stroke layers with different colors.
Step 9: Final Touch and Check
- Unhide the text layer to see your animation come together.
