Create a Neon Flicker Text animation in After Effects. In this tutorial, you will learn to create your own Neon Flicker Text Animation in After Effects with the help of a free plugin called Saber. This Animation can be used for so many purposes, such as creating titles, and logos for videos, advertisements, or Instagram posts. To create neon Text Animation, we are going to use a free Plugin called Saber. The result is a mind-blowing, attention-grabbing animation that stands out and captures the viewer’s attention.

Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Neon Flicker Text Animation:

Step 1: Create a Composition

  1. Open Adobe After Effects.
  2. Create a new composition named “Neon Flicker.”
  3. Set the resolution to 1920×1080 Pixels, frame rate to 30 frames per second, and duration to 7 seconds.

Step 2: Import Wall Texture

  1. Import the wall texture image.
  2. Drag the texture to create a new composition with the same size.

Step 3: Prepare Wall Center

  1. Go back to the Neon Flicker composition.
  2. Drag the Texture composition into the main composition.
  3. Rename it to “Wall Center.”
  4. Press “S” to open scale properties and decrease the scale to 55%.

Step 4: Prepare Side Walls

  1. Duplicate the Wall Center layer by pressing Control + D.
  2. Rename the duplicate to “Wall right.”
  3. Enable the 3D option for Wall right.
  4. Press the “R” key to open rotation properties and change the Y rotation to -90 degrees.
  5. Change X position to 1664 and increase the Scale to 75%.

Step 5: Duplicate and Adjust the Side Walls

  1. Duplicate the Wall right layer.
  2. Rename the duplicate to “Wall left.”
  3. Open rotation properties and change Y rotation to 90 degrees.
  4. Change X position to 256.

Step 6: Apply Adjustment Layer Effects

  1. Move the Wall Center layer above all layers.
  2. Create an Adjustment layer.
  3. Drag the “Hue/Saturation” effect from Effects & Presets to the adjustment layer. Set the master hue to -100.
  4. Drag the “CC Vignette” effect to the adjustment layer. Change the amount to 300 and pin highlight to 100.

Step 7: Additional Adjustment Layer Effects

  1. Create another adjustment layer in the main composition.
  2. Drag the “CC Vignette” effect to the adjustment layer. Change the amount to 420 and pin highlight to 100.
  3. Drag the same effect to the Wall Center layer with the same settings.

Step 8: Neon Text Composition

  1. Create a new composition named “Neon Text.”
  2. Use the Type tool to type your text using the font “Hello Denver Display Regular.”

Step 9: Animate Neon Text

  1. Right-click on the Text layer and choose Create Masks from Text.
  2. Turn off the masks.
  3. Animate the mask opacity for each letter to create a flickering effect.

Step 10: Apply the Saber Effect

  1. Go to Effects & Presets and search for the “Saber” effect.
  2. Drag and drop the effect to the Neon Text layer.
  3. Customize the core settings as desired.

Step 11: Adjust Saber Settings

  1. Change the preset type to Neon.
  2. Customize core settings and change the alpha mode to Mask Core.
  3. Go to Render Settings and change composite settings to Transparent.

Step 12: Add Layer Styles to Text

  1. Hide the Neon Outline layer and unhide the Text layer.
  2. Change the font color to black.
  3. Apply layer styles like Bevel and Emboss and Drop Shadow to the Text layer.

Step 13: Arrange Layers

  1. Drag the Neon Text composition to start from 1 second.
  2. Unhide the Neon Outline layer.

Step 14: Create Neon Color Control

  1. Create a new Null Object named “Neon Color.”
  2. Right-click, go to Effect, Expression Controls, and choose Color Control.
  3. Lock the Effect Controls.
  4. Go to the Neon Text Composition and add an expression to the Saber effect’s glow color using the Color Control.

Step 15: Duplicate Neon Outline Layer

  1. Copy and paste the Neon Outline layer to the Texture composition.
  2. Adjust scale and position.
  3. Apply the Fast Box Blur effect and change the blending mode to Hard Light.

Step 16: Finalize Neon Outline

  1. Copy and paste the Neon Outline layer below the Neon Text layer.
  2. Change the blending mode to Hard Light.
